Beyond Words: Singapore

I love the writing process and creating the perfect flow to my stories. But sometimes words get in the way; they hinder rather than help. The otherworldly vibrancy of an unrestrained forest, the genuine sweetness of a friend’s smile, or the sheer magnificence of an ancient temple cannot be captured in letters. These moments are Beyond Words. I attempt to share such experiences in photos and videos. Enjoy!

After Korea, I got the opportunity to spend two weeks in Singapore with my cousin, Minnie, and her family. I was having such a fabulous time with them! The best part was spending time with Minnie Chechi and getting to know her on my own. Our visits before had been me tagging along with my parents or gathering at a family wedding. Chechi means “older sister” in our family’s language and that is exactly who Minnie Chechi is to me.

While in Singapore, I got to do it all. Let’s start with my favorite topic…food! Malays, Chinese, and Indians make up most of Singapore’s population. There is a large variety of food to try and it is all delicious. Also, Minnie Chechi made me a Thanksgiving feast from scratch! Her pumpkin pie was perfection. We visited the National Museum and walked through the Singaporean history exhibit. The history of this city-state is fascinating and made me appreciate it even more. The Botanical Garden is beautiful and expansive (and free!). I spent a few evenings here and never walked the same path. My cousin and I escaped the heat by wandering Gardens by the Bay for an afternoon – flowers from around the world and a rainforest presented in climate-controlled glass domes. As a family, we went to the Singapore Zoo, which is always my favorite spot. I highly recommend it. Besides the sites, I enjoyed family meals, hanging out with Tom and Jerry (the cats), Sunday church, grocery shopping, and quality time together.

Singapore was a home away from home. I am thankful for the time with my family. Now on to Thailand!
